Egypt’s accreditation to provide aircraft structure maintenance services

In continuation of Egypt’s pioneering role in Africa, Egypt has obtained Airbus accreditation to provide periodic maintenance services for aircraft structures in a new achievement that is added to the company’s record of international accreditations.

This came on the sidelines of participation in the activities of Dubai International Airshow 2025. The agreement was signed by Eng. Ibrahim Fathi, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Managing Director of EgyptAir Maintenance and Technical Works, and on behalf of Airbus by Mr. Gabriel Similas, President of Airbus for the Africa and Middle East region.

Accreditation reflects great commitment to technical standards

This accreditation reflects the great commitment of EgyptAir Maintenance and Technical Works Company to the technical standards of Airbus with regard to quality, safety and operating efficiency in the field of periodic maintenance of aircraft structures.

Last March, Airbus conducted a comprehensive and successful audit that included the company’s modern facilities and facilities at Cairo International Airport.

This agreement strengthens Egypt’s competitive position and highlights its commitment to the highest international standards to provide technical support to the growing fleet of Airbus aircraft in the region. It also confirms the success of investments in developing quality and technology and training human cadres in the aircraft maintenance sector.

Cairo Airport adopts green transformation strategies

In continuation of the integration of efforts of various state agencies to achieve comprehensive sustainable development, Cairo Airport is witnessing a qualitative transformation towards a more comprehensive and sustainable future, within the framework of the directives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the continuation of its efforts to raise the efficiency of Egyptian airports and enhance their international classification.

The meeting was chaired by accountant Magdy Ishaq, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cairo Air Port Company, with the participation of pilot Karim Jamil, advisor to the President of the Civil Aviation Authority, and in full coordination with the relevant agencies and institutions, as a major partner in implementing the plan to transform towards an environmentally friendly airport that complies with the latest international standards.

Environmentally friendly extinguishing materials

The meeting also dealt with the executive procedures for the project to introduce fluorine-free extinguishing agents, applied in the world’s largest airports, for their essential role in reducing pollutants and improving the performance of safety operations in line with the comprehensive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project comes within a joint action plan between the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and in close cooperation with ICAO, with the aim of transferring the latest environmental technology to Egyptian airports and applying them according to approved technical reports.

This development represents an extension of Cairo International Airport’s efforts to adopt green transformation strategies, emphasizing its full commitment to applying sustainability standards and enhancing environmental performance within its facilities.

Project implementation stages

The meeting also discussed the expected work plan for implementing the project, which was as follows:

  • Training sectors and technical teams on modern replacement and operation techniques.
  • Safe disposal of materials in line with Egyptian law and international environmental standards.
  • Implementing field operating trials to ensure the highest level of readiness before the official launch.

In addition to cooperating with competent and accredited companies and bodies to ensure the highest possible accuracy and quality, the project is expected to contribute to enhancing Cairo Airport’s position among the list of world-leading airports in applying safety and environmental standards, so that the airport will continue its role as a regional model in the shift towards green operation and adopting innovation in the field of civil aviation.
