Improving the quality of health care.. The Prime Minister inspects developments in the Nile Medical City project

Health care represents a fundamental pillar in the path ofsustainable development, because of its direct role in building the human being and enhancing his ability to produce and participate in economic and social development. Therefore, the Egyptian state continues to implement an ambitious plan to develop the health care system, by expanding the establishment and modernization of medical facilities, raising the efficiency of the infrastructure, and providing integrated treatment services in accordance with international standards, ensuring the improvement of the quality of health services provided to citizens.

These efforts reflect the state’s commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably the goal of good health and well-being, in addition to supporting human development and social justice. Development of the Nile Medical City (Nasser Institute)

In addition to the above, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly was keen to follow up on the Nile Medical City development project (Nasser Institute) as part of his field tour to a number of health facilities in the Cairo and Giza governorates. This is to review the current executive position of the project and inspect a number of new constructions therein. He was accompanied by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, and Dr. Sherif Mostafa, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for National Projects.

 The Prime Minister indicated that the project to establish the Nile Medical City”Nasser Institute Hospital” is considered the largest project in the history of the Ministry of Health, and it enjoys continuous follow-up by His Excellency Mr. President, and there is a directive from His Excellency to quickly complete its implementation, stressing that this edifice is fit to be an integrated international medical city.

The largest integrated medical complexes

While Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that the Ministry gives high priority to the expansion of health care projects and new construction in all governorates of the Republic, most notably the Nile Medical City, by developing it to become the largest medical city in Egypt and the Middle East, indicating the Ministry’s keenness to adhere to the specified timetables and effective coordination between the concerned authorities; To ensure the delivery and operation of projects on schedule, thus enhancing the sustainability of health care servicesProvided to citizens.

During Dr. Mostafa Madbouly’s inspection of the project, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the Nile Medical City project is one of the largest integrated medical complexes, which is being built on an area of 37 acres at an estimated cost of more than 8.5 billion pounds.

In this context, the Minister of Health and Population explained that the project includes a main hospital, a new extension building, an oncology building, another for outpatient clinics, a research center, doctors’ housing, and a multi-storey garage, pointing out that after the completion of the development, the capacity will reach 1,276 inpatient beds, 331 intensive care beds, 95 preterm nurseries, and 120 dialysis machines. And 45 operating rooms, 100 outpatient clinics, in addition to specialized departments in chemotherapy and radiation therapy and linear accelerator units, and the total completion of the project is scheduled for March.2028.

Executive position for construction works

With regard to the executive position of the construction work for the project to develop and raise the efficiency of the Nasser Institute for Research and Treatment, the official of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces initially explained the main components built on an area of (156,366) m2 equivalent to 37 acres, which includes the construction of an extension building for the main building, which includes (ground – first – second – third – (7 recurring), with a total area of (72,340) m2, and the construction of the oncology building, which includes (basement – ground – (7) recurring), With a total area of (28000) m2.

In addition to the construction of the outpatient clinics building, which includes (basement – ground – (4) floors] with a total area of (22,800) m2, in addition to the construction of 2 residential buildings (doctors – female doctors), which includes (ground – (6) floors), with a total area of (4536) m2.

The components also include the construction of a research building (ground – (6))Repeated) with a total area of (6818) m2, in addition to the construction of a multi-storey garage that includes (basement – ground – (6) recurring) with a total area of (38400) m2, in addition to the construction of a central services building with a total area of (4000) m2. The project also includes the construction of walls (2100) m2 and a number of 7 main and subsidiary gates.

From the above, it is clear how huge the Nile Medical City Development Project (Nasser Institute) is and its major role in improving the quality of health care. It also reflects a fundamental shift in the state’s philosophy towards the health care system, from moving from developing traditional facilities to establishing an integrated medical city that combines treatment, scientific research, training and support services within one framework. The size of the project, the diversity of its components, and its unprecedented absorptive capabilities confirm that the state deals with health as a long-term strategic investment in people, and not just an immediate treatment service.
