Arab Sustainable Development Week
Among those tangible steps in the field of sustainable development come the steps of the Arab League by launching the Arab Week for Sustainable Development, which is an Arab platform at the level of planning, development and international cooperation. From here, the Arab Sustainable Development Week - in its fifth edition - begins, aiming to strengthen effective partnerships that directly affect the lives of Arab citizens, with a focus on building a fair future among all individuals, in addition to enhancing dialogue between governments, the private sector, and civil society institutions.
Sustainable Solutions
The opening session of the fifth edition of the Arab Development Week witnessed the presence of a number of prominent figures, led by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation. Also present were: Stephane Gimbert, Regional Director for Egypt, Yemen, Djibouti, the Middle East, and North Africa at the World Bank Group, and Elena Panova, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
The activities of the fifth edition of the Arab Week for Sustainable Development come in light of a global movement on the level of climate and development, which was represented by the holding of COP29 during the past days. Therefore, the week’s activities will continue over the next four days, as stakeholders - including young people and academics - focus on the importance of finding practical solutions capable of accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event includes - in addition to the above - the organization of the Third Al Baraka Regional Conference, which seeks to explore innovative strategies that would alleviate poverty, based on the principles of Islamic economics, in accordance with development strategies at the national and international levels. The Arab Development Week sessions will also include - in general - discussions on sustainable solutions that can contribute to improving the Arab reality, while highlighting successful experiences and innovative practices that are considered a role model.
Sustainable goals
With these events, the Arab Week for Sustainable Development seeks to strengthen Arab identity and build a just future, with a focus on the stability of the Arab world and the sustainability of its resources. The League of Arab States - through the Arab Week for Sustainable Development - also intends to organize the “First High-Level Arab Regional Forum on Sustainability and Mitigating Investment Risks”; Desiring to address challenges and opportunities related to investment and sustainability in the Arab region, in addition to enhancing dialogue between governments, investors and development agencies.
