New investments to support electricity supply in Sinai to achieve sustainable development
Sinaioccupies a pivotal place in the comprehensive development map of the Egyptian state, as it is one of the most important strategic regions that has witnessed, in recent years, a large-scale development movement, aiming to transform it into an attractive center for investment, construction, and services.
This approach comes within the framework of an integrated vision aimed at rebuilding the peninsula and enhancing its economic and social components, thus consolidating its role in supporting the path of sustainable development at the republic level.
Therefore, developing and supporting the national electricity grid in the North and South Sinai governorates is a pivotal step in creating the appropriate environment for the expansion of development projects and enhancing the efficiency of infrastructure, keeping pace with the volume of growing investments in the region and enhancing its ability to absorb future growth.
This approach is consistent with a number of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), most notably the seventh goal concerned with providing clean and affordable energy, and the ninth goal related to promoting economic growth, in addition to the eleventh goal related to building more sustainable communities and cities capable of growth.
A comprehensive plan to support sustainable development
In addition to the above, and coinciding with the state’s celebrations of Sinai Liberation Day, the state is adopting a plan to rebuild and achieve sustainable development in the peninsula, within the framework of the strategy of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy to make electrical energy available for all uses as a basic pillar for comprehensive and integrated development, and to establish national projects for agricultural, industrial and urban development.
In this context, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, received a report explaining the progress of work in the plan to support, develop and modernize the national electricity network, and the implementation procedures for strengthening projects and increasing the capacity to absorb new generating energies and capacities, and ensuring the security, stability and continuity of electrical supply in the North and South Sinai governorates.
46 billion pounds to support the national electricity grid
The report indicated that the volume of investments in electric power projects in the Sinai Peninsula amounted to 46 billion pounds during the past few years. To support the national electricity network, provide supply for all uses with quality, stability, and continuity, and make electricity available in support of the tourism, agricultural, and industrial development plan, urban expansion, and the establishment of new urban communities. These investments reflect the state’s orientation towards employing infrastructure projects to be a direct tool to support economic growth and create an attractive environment for investment in development priority areas.
The report indicated the strengthening of the electricity transmission network with (27) transformer stations at ultra-high and ultra-high voltages, and the implementation of overhead circuits and ground cables with a length of (3841 km) at ultra-high and ultra-high voltages. The report also indicated the continuation of work on establishing (5) ultra-high voltage stations, including transformer stations WPS1, WPS2, WPS3, East Port Said Development, and Al-Tur. The ongoing work includes completing the construction of the Masaeed/Baghdad overhead line with a length of 80 km. km, and the expansion of Al-Masaieed transformer stations with (3) cells, and the Baghdad station with (2) cells.

In addition to the completion of the construction of electricity transmission lines and the supply and installation of (2) insulated gas cells at the Oyoun Musa generating station, the report also highlighted that the electricity distribution networks in the North and South Sinai governorates witnessed a complete re-planning and construction process during the last period, and more than 4,000 kilometers of ground cables and overhead lines were laid at different voltages, and 600 transformers and kiosks of different capacities were erected, and 15,000 columns at medium and low voltages, distribution boxes, ring link units, and others were laid to support and develop The network in Sinai, providing and improving the quality of nutrition for development projects and residential communities throughout Sinai.
Implementing giant development projects
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat stressed that Sinai, by virtue of its importance and status in all of our souls, receives great attention from the state, which is reflected in the comprehensive development plan being implemented in that pure spot and the implementation of many giant development projects in various fields, which requires supporting and strengthening the electrical network to secure and ensure the provision of the electrical supply required by reconstruction and development projects in various regions of Sinai.
Adding that there is continuous follow-up to the Sinai Cranes transformer stations to provide electrical supply within the scope of the work of the Egypt Future Agency for Sustainable Development, as well as the Suez Canal Economic Zone, tourism development projects and other development projects, stressing the improvement of the quality of electrical services provided to citizens in the centers, villages and all population centers in Sinai within the framework of the state’s comprehensive development vision and the work program of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

In conclusion, it is clear that the development projects witnessed in Sinai reflect a broader vision that considers infrastructure the true starting point for sustainable development. Strengthening the capabilities of the national grid, establishing stations and transmission lines, and re-planning distribution networks are all steps aimed at preparing the ground for new waves of investment and urbanization, and transforming available resources into stable production and development opportunities in one of the most important regions.
For its part,The Earth Guards Foundation sheds light on these giant development projects, and believes that directing investments of this size to Sinai bears a clear indication that the development of Sinai has become an integral part of the state’s priorities in order to achieve comprehensive sustainable development, as electricity is an important tool for connecting population centers to major projects, and supporting agriculture, industry, and tourism. Opening the way for new and sustainable urban communities.
