Localization of industry in Egypt between energy partnership and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Localization of industry in Egypt between the energy partnership and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In the New Administrative Capital, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy witnessed an important meeting that brought together Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, “Minister of Electricity,” and Engineer Karim Badawi, “Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to discuss pivotal files related to the localization of industry, technology transfer, and maximizing the use of natural resources.
This meeting came in light of the unprecedented rise in temperatures and increase in electrical loads. Which forces the state to review energy policies dynamically. In order to ensure the stability of the unified network, and improve the quality of electrical supply for all uses.
This step comes in a national context that intersects with global efforts towards promoting sustainable development, as the localization of industry and the shift towards renewable energy constitute a fundamental axis for achieving a balance between meeting the needs of citizens and protecting the environment, while ensuring the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

Integrative partnership to secure energy and improve electricity efficiency
During the meeting, the two ministers explained that the partnership between the electricity and petroleum sectors is a strategic partnership, which aims to improve the efficiency of electricity generation units and reduce the consumption of traditional fuel, which contributes to reducing emissions and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Joint efforts to secure electrical supply and ensure the stability of the unified network were also reviewed, especially during peak periods in the summer.
The two ministers also discussed the importance of cooperation including establishing solid foundations for the integration of industrial policies with energy plans, as a natural extension of the efforts made to improve the efficiency of generation units and reduce fuel consumption. This interconnection between energy management and industry maximizes the added value of natural resources, and opens the way for investment in modern technologies that increase production efficiency and support the state’s move towards reducing dependence on imports. Which directly paves the way for the expansion of manufacturing industries and the exploitation of mineral resources to serve the goals of sustainable development.
Manufacturing industries and maximizing the use of natural resources
In this context, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat pointed out the importance of expanding manufacturing industries as a basic economic tributary that maximizes returns from natural resources, and this comes within the state’s direction towards manufacturing pure silicon, exploiting quartz ore, and localizing technology for processing rare metals and extracting economic elements from them, in cooperation with the Nuclear Materials Authority and the Mineral Resources Authority.
This trend is closely linked to the path of sustainable development. It ensures the transfer of modern technology to the Egyptian interior, provides quality job opportunities, and reduces dependence on imports. Which opens the way to building a more solid and stable economy, and this vision makes the localization of industry a pivotal tool for achieving strategic energy and environmental goals.

Localization of modern technology in the energy sector
The meeting reviewed ambitious plans to localize the manufacturing technology ofphotovoltaic panelsand semiconductors, or what are known as electronic chips, in cooperation between the Ministries of Electricity and Petroleum and their affiliated bodies, and this project is a fundamental step towards reducing dependence on abroad in this vital sector.
This comes as a continuation of the state’s efforts to localize industry in the fields of renewable energy, ensuring the independence of industrial and technical decisions. Therefore, the integration of these technologies into the national industry reflects a clear awareness that sustainable development is inseparable from possessing its technological tools, and this path also opens the way for Egypt to be a regional center in green industries, thus enhancing its position on the international economic and environmental map.
Renewable energy and the role of storage in grid stability
The discussions confirmed the addition of generating capacities of up to 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy to the unified network before the summer of this year, with the expansion of energy storage technologies to ensure the stability of the electrical network during peak times. This comes within the framework of the national energy strategy that seeks to diversify generation sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Integrating storage into the energy infrastructure represents an essential step to overcome environmental challenges and ensure the flexibility of the electrical system in the face of climate fluctuations and increasing demand. Hence, linking renewable energy with storage technologies enhances Egypt’s ability to achieve the sustainability equation in the energy sector.
In conclusion, this coordination between the Ministries of Electricity and Petroleum represents a milestone in the path of sustainable development in Egypt, as it embodies the vision that links the exploitation of natural resources, the development of manufacturing industries, and reliance on clean energy, and the efforts made to improve efficiency, localize technology, and reduce traditional fuel consumption, open the door to profound transformations in the national economy.

Hence, theThe Earth Guards Foundation believes that this trend reflects a gradual transition from managing daily challenges to building an integrated model of development that balances the needs of the citizen and ensuring the continuity of resources for future generations, and it is a path worthy of appreciation. Because it places Egypt on the threshold of a new stage, going beyond the economic dimension to consolidating the values of environmental justice and sustainability as strategic assets for a more stable future.
