This agreement comes within the historic partnership between the two continents, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The signing of the agreement came during a strategic event held in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of an information session on the European investment package “Global PortalGlobal Gatewayfor Africa, which is a huge initiative aimed at supporting development in various sectors, Such as digitization, energy, transportation,health, education and scientific research, this session provided an opportunity to highlight current and future European investments in Africa.

The new agreement sets a clear roadmap that aims to achieve tangible results over the next two years; The focus will be on improving institutional performance in the African Union, supporting policies that promote economic integration, energy and digitalization, and developing more efficient mechanisms to monitor projects and evaluate their implementation. Which facilitates achieving the continent’s development goals in more sustainable and independent ways.

In his speech during the signing, Ambassador Fathallah Sjilmasi – Director General of the African Union Commission – stressed that this partnership is not just financial cooperation, but rather is part of a broader strategic vision aimed at enhancing the integration of the African continent and its sustainable development. He added that the African Union benefits from this type of initiative to accelerate institutional transformation and achieve the aspirations of Agenda 2063, stressing that cooperation between the two continents must develop into a real partnership based on sharing experiences and building Capabilities.

Ambassador Javier Niño Pérez – the representative of the European Union to the African Union – pointed out that Africa represents a major political priority for the European Union, as this partnership is based on solidarity, peace, security, sustainable development, and shared prosperity. He explained that the European Union is the largest international partner of the African Union, noting that the new program will work to strengthen the ability of the African Union to implement its development strategies.
