In a few days, “International Women’s Day will come upon us.” This occasion, which falls on the eighth of March every year, is celebrated by the United Nations and UNICEF, in addition to a large number of institutions and countries around the world, in order to highlight the effective role of women indevelopment. sustainable development, and supporting the empowerment of women and the promotion of their rights and protection in a way that ensures the fulfillment of the aspirations and hopes of all parts of society.
In this year’s celebration, Earth Guards participates by highlighting a group of the most prominent Egyptian female models, who were able to exceed the limits of societal expectations, to achieve many achievements on the scientific and practical levels. Therefore, we continue with you in these days – ahead of International Women’s Day – to learn about these honorable models, in an effort by the magazine to inspire all women, support their empowerment, and highlight their role in achieving sustainable development, and the heroine of this article is “Zainab Hegazy“.
Zeinab Hegazy is the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability atCEMEXin Egypt and the UAE, and she also supervises the company’s social impact and community service programs. Zeinab joined CEMEX in 2001, and since then, she has held several important positions, most notably Executive Board Member –Assiut Cement Company.
Other highlights in Hegazy’s professional life include her participation in the British human resources organization CIPD, a founding member of the Human Resources Association, a founding member of the Egyptian-Mexican Business Council, and the official spokesperson for CEMEX Egypt and the UAE.
Zeinab won many awards during her distinguished professional journey, including the Champion of Change Award recognized by the embassies of Mexico, Sweden and Canada, for her leadership of CEMEX’s strategy for sustainability and societal impact in Egypt. She also appeared in the hallCelebrity Egyptian Women 2021.
In addition to the above, Zainab Hegazy has been recognized as one of the most influential African women in the construction industry for two consecutive years (2018/2019) by CEO Global, as well as being selected as one of the Top 30 Women in the Cement Industry in Africa in 2020.
Through its important role in CEMEX, “Hegazy” drives sustainability and community service initiatives, the most prominent of which is Assiut Cement’s partnership with the “VeryNile” initiative to expand the latter’s operations in cleaning the Nile River of waste, while the former receives that waste for use as alternative fuel.
In addition to the above, CEMEX Egypt launched the “No More Plastic” campaign, where employees are encouraged to reduce the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic containers, and employees were also given what are known as environmentally friendly shopping bags.
