The Ministry of Investment leads the Egypt Export Initiative with the aim of enhancing exports and supporting the economy

Economic policies in Egypt are moving towards enhancing exports as one of the main paths to support sustainable development, increasing production capacity, and expanding the presence of the national industry in foreign markets.

In this context, the importance of moving from focusing on growing the value of exports to building a broader base of companies capable of competing and expanding, which increases the added value of local products and enhances opportunities for access to new markets, is highlighted.

With the growing role of small and medium enterprises and industrial clusters in supporting the national economy, initiatives to qualify exporters are gaining increasing importance, especially with the state’s move to provide supportive services and programs within the governorates.Linking universities and the private sector to the production system.

Hence, the “Egypt Exports” initiative seeks to transform the capabilities of the national industry into broader export opportunities, and to consolidate the presence of the “Made in Egypt” brand as a symbol of quality and competitiveness in global markets.

Increasing productivity and enhancing Egyptian exports

From this standpoint, and in implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to increase productivity, enhance Egyptian exports and expand the exporter base, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, launched the activities of the “Egypt Goes to Export” initiative from Tanta University in Gharbia Governorate, during a major event held under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and with broad participation from representatives of government agencies, bodies affiliated with the Ministry, and the business community.Industry and trade.

Minister Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh confirmed that the state has succeeded in achieving growing rates of exports, pointing out that the real challenge is expanding the base of exporting companies, noting that only 50 companies account for about 45% of total Egyptian exports, a reality that the Ministry is working to change by reaching companies in various governorates and qualifying them to access foreign markets.

He explained during his speech that only 730 companies have so far benefited from the services of the export development system, stressing that the Ministry aims to reach thousands of companies in all governorates, and introduce them to the services, programs, and incentives provided by the entities affiliated with the Ministry, in a way that contributes to increasing the number of exporters and raising the competitiveness of the Egyptian product.

National PartnershipTo expand the exporter base

He added: The “Egypt Exports” initiative represents a new approach in the work of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, which is based on transferring government services to companies within the governorates and industrial clusters, instead of waiting for companies to go to government agencies, stressing that enhancing exports has become based on a national partnership that brings together the government, the private sector, the governorates, universities, and all supporting bodies.

The Minister indicated that the Ministry adopts the principle of “You have the right to know” to introduce the business community to the services of the Export Development Authority, the Export Development Fund, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, and the Commercial Representation Authority, explaining that the initiative includes specialized workshops that practically review all the services and programs that support companies in their journey towards exporting.

This approach reflects the importance of institutional partnerships in achieving economic development, which is consistent with the seventeenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which focuses on building effective partnerships between various parties to achieve more impactful and sustainable development results.

Capacity building and competitiveness enhancement to support Egyptian exports

The minister explained that the value of Gharbia Governorate’s exports amounted to about $2.1 billion during the past five years, stressing that the governorate has a strong industrial and production base that qualifies it to increase its contributions to exports, and that the ministry is looking forward to creating positive competition between the governorates to increase its ranking on the map of Egyptian exports.

He pointed out that export is an industry that needs capacity building and refining companies’ skills, which is what the Ministry is working on through training and qualification programmes, stressingSuccess in increasing exports requires perseverance and joint work between all state institutions, and expanding the exporter base will remain a top priority during the next stage.

The Minister also announced that the Ministry is considering launching competitions and rewards for the most advanced companies in increasing their exports, with the aim of encouraging competition and motivating companies to expand in foreign markets.

Developing companies’ capabilities and raising their readiness for export comes within the framework of a broader trend to enhance the competitiveness of the national industry, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the eighth goal, which aims to achieve sustainable economic growth based on increasing productivity and providing job opportunities, and the ninth goal, which supports building a more innovative and competitive industry.
