Africa Day for Development
Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Higher Education and Scientific Research organized an Africa Day celebration inside Cairo University, in the presence of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, “President of Cairo University,” and a number of senior African and foreign officials and diplomats, in addition to academic, intellectual, and media figures.
The celebration witnessed the presentation of a recorded speech by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in which he affirmed that Africa stands on the cusp of a new phase of construction and development, based on the capabilities and resources it possesses, in addition to the will of its peoples to make the most of its wealth.
In extension of what His Excellency the President affirmed, the Africa Day celebration included a visual presentation on the development of Egyptian-African relations in recent years, and the expansion it has witnessed in the areas of political, economic, and development cooperation, in addition to highlighting the role of Cairo University in hosting African students, and supporting education and capacity-building programs.

Peace and security first
Then the Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to a number of models that reflect the development of Egyptian-African cooperation, most notably the “Julius Nyerere Dam” project in Tanzania, which was a model of cooperation between countries of the South, in addition to the important continental events that Egypt hosted, including the “Africa Forum - El Alamein,” and the preparation to organize the sixth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, in a way that strengthens Cairo’s position as a center. Regionally, it is one of the centers of joint African dialogue and action.
Investing in African people
For his part, Dr. Abdel Aziz Qanswa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained that investing in African people is one of the most important paths to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the continent of Africa, stressing the Egyptian state’s continued efforts to support academic, research and cultural cooperation with African countries, through:

- Training programs
Regarding these academic efforts, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research stressed how Egypt is promoting the path of scientific research among incoming African students, citing as an example the “Study in Egypt” initiative, and the training, capacity-building and integrated care programs Egypt provides, which contributes to preparing African cadres capable of leading sustainable development efforts in their countries.
These Egyptian moves within the African continent reveal a broader shift in the nature of regional relations, a shift based on diplomatic dimensions and the building of extended networks of knowledge, development, and economic cooperation. With a desire to confront interconnected global challenges related to education, food security, climate change, and job opportunities, which makes investing in African people and exchanging experiences one of the most important keys to building stability and enhancing the capacity of African countries.
