Ain Shams University’s efforts in green transformation
“Ain Shams University” has intensified its efforts in green transformation, in order to be one of the fourth generation universities, and this is through developing academic programs and teaching methods, as well as structuring and developing the buildings of the university’s colleges and hospitals, and the entire campus. Ain Shams University established the “I Hub” building, seeking digital transformation, in cooperation with several national bodies. This transformation came before the Corona pandemic, and after that the pace of transformation accelerated, as the university highlighted the university’s educational platforms, such as: “ASU 2 Leaning”, “ASU E assessment platform”.
The “I hub” building is the first of its kind among Egyptian universities, and an important step in advancing the green transformation, entrepreneurship and digitization at the university. It is worth noting that the “I Hub” building obtained the “EDGE ADVANCED Certificate”, as it is the first building in the Arab Republic of Egypt to obtain this international certificate.
Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini “President ofAin Shams University” emphasized the university’s role in preserving the environment, such as its endeavor to increase afforestation; To confront climate change, as well as the establishment of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center building, which has obtained an international certificate stating that it is a smart green building, significantly reducing energy and water use, as well as the establishment of the Acoustics Building at the College of Engineering.
The university president also explained how “Ain Shams University” began digital transformation, through the many training courses, which are held online, and students pay their costs electronically. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Matini explained the university’s strategy to reduce the use of papers, and this is through creating and activating university platforms. Thus reducing gasoline consumption during transportation, which reduces the carbon footprint.
Among what was established by “Ain Shams University” is the information network building, as well as the Center of Excellence for Sustainability, which works on three axes, the first: establishing partnerships between colleges, then highlighting the university’s role in these partnerships. The second: holding training lectures for students. Third: Seeking many changes in the university’s infrastructure, with programs aimed at serving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and “Egypt Vision 2030”.
In the same context, El-Metini explained the extent of interest of “Ain Shams University” in opening up to international universities, while providing educational services that keep pace with international standards, thereby reflecting the image of Egypt as a safe country.
