Enhancing the energy sector…a sustainable mix to support industrial development and raise competitiveness

In light of the global economic and environmental changes, the transition toclean energy has become an inevitable necessity. Therefore, government efforts are joining forces to achieve comprehensive sustainable development in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 by developing a comprehensive framework that focuses on building an integrated and sustainable environmental system, which includes confronting the challenges of climate change, preserving natural resources and managing waste.

In this context, the government continues its diligent work in an effort to achieve comprehensive economic development, especially in the industrial sector, and based on the fact that clean energy is one of the basic pillars of achieving sustainable development, the state is working to implement its integrated strategic vision to transform into a more diversified and sustainable energy mix, includingSupports industrial development.

Energy Mix Conference

In addition to the above, the activities of the ninth edition of the Al-Ahram Energy Conference were launched under the title “The Energy Mix… Investment Opportunities and the Future of Development,” which is held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly.

The conference was attended by a group of ministers, including Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Engineer Mohamed Salah El-Din, Minister of State for Military Production, and Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, along with a number of governors and experts.

National Energy Strategy

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, at the opening session of the conference“The energy mix… investment opportunities and the future of development,” in which he stressed that, thanks to the permanent support and continuous follow-up, from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to developments in the clean and more sustainable energy mix.

Within the framework of the state’s vision that energy is an essential pillar for sustainable development and industrial development projects, the updated ambitious national energy strategy was launched, in cooperation and partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum, to manage, invest and maximize returns from assets and resources.

Indeed, the strategy has come a long way to reach clean energy to 42% of the total energy generated in 2030, and 65% in 2040, with projects already being implemented, indicating the addition of generating capacity of about 32 gigawatts, and the construction of 25 transformer stations with a capacity of 42.37 thousand megavolt amperes.

Reliance on renewable energy

He statedDr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, continues to implement a plan to develop, modernize, and strengthen the unified network, improve companies’ performance rates, economic operation, reduce fuel consumption, and change operating patterns to achieve the desired industrial development in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Pointing to reliance on renewable energy, by introducing battery storage systems for the first time in the history of the electrical network in Egypt, working on pumping and water storage projects, using modern technology to reduce technical and commercial losses, inventorying assets and working to exploit them, and localizing the electrical supplies industry.

He pointed out the completion of the first phase of the electrical interconnection project with Saudi Arabia, work on interconnection projects with Europe, and the implementation of training programs to develop skills and build capabilities for workers, in addition to strengthening and activating the role of the Authority.Nuclear materials, atomic energy, new and renewable energy authorities, the Nuclear Power Plants Authority and the Dabaa station, and ensuring the establishment of a body to supervise nuclear power station projects to generate electricity.

The Ministry of Military Production supports the energy sector

In his speech delivered by Engineer Mohamed Salah El-Din Mustafa, Minister of State for Military Production, he stressed that the Ministry of Military Production pays great attention to active participation in supporting the energy sector, based on its national role as one of the most important arms of industrial development in the country, in addition to its main role as a pillar of military industrialization in Egypt.

The minister added that in addition to military industries, the ministry is working on producing civilian products to meet the demands of the energy sector, in line with the Egyptian state’s trend towards diversifying energy sources and increasing reliance on clean energy sources. And sustainable, in a way that achieves the economic and environmental dimensions of comprehensive sustainable development at the same time.

Renewable energy and green transportation

In order to enhance the state’s efforts to localize renewable energy technology locally and reduce dependence on imports, the Ministry is interested in manufacturing solar panels within one of the Ministry’s companies, noting that these panels are characterized by high quality and long lifespan.

In addition to its effective role in supporting the green transportation system, in line with the global trend towards shifting to environmentally friendly means of transportation that achieve a reduction in harmful carbon emissions, the Ministry of Military Production participated in the design and production of an Egyptian electric bus under the name “SETIBUS” with a local component amounting to about 60%, and the production and supply of (110) electric buses for the two public transportation authorities. In Cairo and Alexandria governorates.

It is also participating in the implementation of a project to convert (2262) buses affiliated with the Public Transport Authority in Cairo and Alexandria to operate on natural gas instead of diesel to reduce carbon emissions, through (6) stages, each stage with (377) buses.

From the above, it is clear the extent of the government’s interest in developing the energy sector as an essential axis of industrial development and comprehensive sustainable development, through intensifying and integrating efforts to diversify energy sources and increase reliance on renewable energy, as well as introducing new and advanced systems for storing electricity and paying attention to green industries and green transportation.

TheThe Earth Guards Foundation highlights such efforts and newly introduced regulations in the energy sector, and also emphasizes the need to expandRelying on renewable and sustainable energy sources to achieve the economic dimension of sustainable development by providing clean energy at affordable prices, achieving industrial development and economic growth, and encouraging industry, innovation and infrastructure.
