Social justice in Egypt 2030:From a strategic vision to a tangible reality

Nations do not thrive on money alone, nor do their civilizations thrive on industrial growth alone. Rather, true development requires that it touch people’s lives in their human depth, where dignity, equality, and social justice; Therefore, the social dimension in the path of sustainable development becomes like the hidden string from which a cohesive national fabric is woven.

In Egypt – where the transformations of the present are intertwined with the aspirations of the future – the need to consolidate this dimension increases. Because it is a pillar that leads to just stability and comprehensive growth that affects everyone without exclusion or marginalization, in a way that achieves social justice in all its forms. From this standpoint,Earth Guards seeksTo shed light on Egypt’s most prominent efforts in the field of achieving social justice, in a way that demonstrates the importance of the social dimension in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dimensions of sustainable development

Sustainable development is defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is based on three main interconnected and complementary dimensions, often known as the three dimensions of sustainable development or the three pillars: It is:

Social Dimension

This dimension focuses on human well-being and social justice, and aims to achieve just, equitable and inclusive societies, where all individuals have equal opportunities to access basic services, such as quality education, health, living in dignity, and full participation inSocial, economic and political life. This dimension includes issues such as eradicating poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality, providing quality education, health care, clean water and sanitation, decent work, and reducing inequalities.

Economic Dimension

This dimension focuses on economic growth that achieves prosperity and increases employment opportunities, while ensuring the efficient and sustainable use of resources. It aims to achieve long-term economic prosperity without depleting natural resources or harming the environment. This includes issues such as sustainable production and consumption, sustainable finance, and inclusive economic growth.

Environmental Dimension

This dimension is concerned with the protection of natural resourcesوالنظم البيئية للأرض. It aims to preserve biodiversity, combat pollution, mitigate and adapt to climate change, and manage natural resources sustainably.

The location of the social dimension in relation to other dimensions

The social dimension is not separate from the economic and environmental dimensions, but rather it is rooted in them, greatly influenced by them, and affects them in turn. The relationship between these dimensions is complementary and not competitive, and in the following lines here is an overview of this integration:

Integration with the economic dimension

Sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without a healthy, educated and productive society. Because investing in education, health, and training – the social dimension – leads to a more efficient and productive workforce. Which supports economic growth. And in returnEconomic growth provides the resources needed to invest in social programs and infrastructure that improve people’s lives.

Integration with the environmental dimension

Communities that live in a healthy environment are more capable of development and prosperity; Providing clean water and sanitation – a social dimension – depends on managing water resources in a sustainable manner. This is an environmental dimension. Environmental degradation, such as pollution and climate change, directly and disproportionately affects the most vulnerable groups in society. Hence, inequalities between members of one society increase. Therefore, protecting the environment is an integral part of achieving social justice.

So, the social dimension – in short – is the beating heart of development and its greatest goal. Because in this dimension we serveHumans come first, and the benefits are distributed fairly, which ultimately represents the ultimate goal of sustainable development. To enable a world in which people live in dignity, health and equality, within the boundaries of a sustainable planet.

Social empowerment in Egypt’s Vision 2030

Because of the importance of the social dimension in the path of achieving social justice, Egypt seeks, through “Egypt Vision 2030,” to integrate this dimension into its development policies, by achieving justice, integrating marginalized groups, and enhancing the participation of women, youth, and people with disabilities in shaping the future.

Therefore, the vision was developed to be more comprehensive for social justice, aiming to improve the quality of life for all Egyptians, and reduce the gaps between groups and regions. Egypt has witnessed the launch of a package of initiatives that reflect this trend, such as:

Decent Life Initiative

The Decent Life Initiative is one of the largest social initiatives in the history of Egypt, and aims to improve the standard of living in the villages of the Egyptian countryside, through developing infrastructure, providing education and health services, and providing decent means of living.

Solidarity and Dignity Program

The Takaful and Dignity program targets families in need, and provides conditional and unconditional cash support.

Women’s Economic Empowerment

Egypt is making effective efforts in the field of women’s empowerment, through enacting legislation and approving laws that open the horizon to women’s capabilities, which we see present in training programs and initiatives to support women entrepreneurs in rural areas. And urban alike.

The most prominent of these programs are “Rural Pioneers” and “She Leads,” as the first program focuses on qualifying women through training in craft skills, raising awareness of health and nutrition, and facilitating the establishment of home-based projects in areas such as cheese and bread making. The second program seeks to build the capabilities of emerging female entrepreneurs through training camps, digital marketing, and technical skills development. Which opened new economic horizons for girls in the digital environment and the labor market.

Social Justice and Citizenship

Strengthening the concept of citizenship is one of the fundamental axes in the social dimension of sustainable development, which is what the Egyptian state dedicates by consolidating the values of participation and societal responsibility, and building more service institutions.Efficiency and fairness. This is evident in policies aimed at achieving distributional justice, integrating less-represented groups, and activating the principles of transparency and good governance standards.

Investing in human capital

Health and education constitute a major focus in the efforts made to enhance the social dimension in the path to achieving social justice, and the state has intensified its investments in developing the educational and health system, through:

  • Comprehensive health insurance project: which aims to cover all citizens with integrated health services.
  • Education reform plans: which include digital transformation, curriculum development, and improving teachers’ efficiency.

These efforts are consideredAs a long-term investment in human capital, which is the basis for building a sustainable economy and society capable of adapting to regional and global changes.

The Egyptian state also pays great attention to empowering youth, as they are the backbone of any development process. Therefore, dialogue platforms such as youth conferences were created, community participation mechanisms were activated, and pioneering initiatives were launched in the fields of education, volunteer work, and entrepreneurship.

This was reflected in supporting innovation spaces, providing training opportunities, and linking education to the labor market, in a way that enhances the integration of youth into the development system, through initiatives such as “Pioneers 2030”, which supported incubators of innovation and entrepreneurship among young people, and the dual technical education program that links study to the labor market fromThrough training within factories, as well as industrial innovation centers that qualify graduates with advanced technological skills; All of these are Egyptian efforts that embody a strategic direction towards empowering youth to contribute effectively to sustainable development.

In conclusion, theThe Earth Guards Foundation sees in the current Egyptian scene accelerated efforts in strengthening the social dimension of sustainable development, which reflects a qualitative shift in the official and popular understanding of the meaning of progress, as continuing to invest in people, strengthen protection and empowerment policies, ensure transparency and accountability, and achieve social justice; A necessary pillar to ensure that all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are achieved fairly and comprehensively.
