A field tour to the Jabal Galala region to begin procedures for establishing renewable energy generation projects
Given the repercussions of international crises and fluctuations in global fuel markets, the issue of securing energy needs has become part of a complex equation that forces countries to search for more sustainable and flexible alternatives. Hence,Renewable energy, especially sun and wind, has emerged as a strategic option that allows reducing dependence on traditional sources, and gives countries greater ability to confront external pressures and achieve stability in energy supplies.
Also, Egypt is moving to accelerate the pace of expansion in renewable and clean energy projects, taking advantage of its rich natural resources, most notably areas with promising potential such as Mount Galala, in a way that supports the state’s plans to maximize returns from these resources, diversify the energy mix, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
This trend also reflects a growing awareness of the importance of accelerating the implementation of renewable energy projects, in light of the current regional challenges, in a way that enhances the country’s ability to achieve sustainable development, by providing clean energy at reasonable prices and ensuring energy security in the long term.
Generating electricity from wind energy
Based on the above and in implementation of the leadership’s directives, to maximize returns from natural resources, and exploit the Jabal Galala region with high wind speeds in establishing renewable energy projects and generating electricity from wind energy, the state has developed a plan to achieve sustainable development and shift towards clean energy.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy also developed an action program based on diversifying energy sources, relying on renewable energy, and reducing the use of fossil fuels, in a way that enhances the ability to achieve sustainable development, by providing clean energy at reasonable prices.
To embody this, the team, Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, and Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, conducted a field visit to the Jabal Al-Galala region in the Suez Governorate, with the participation of Engineer / Ihab Ismail, Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Development and Utilization Authority, to determine the actual steps to begin exploiting the region and using the mountain in establishing projects to generate electricity from wind energy, given the Galala region’s characteristic of active to strong wind speeds, as it is considered a promising area for wind energy projects with high capabilities. High.

Field follow-up to expand wind energy projects
The tour included an inspection of a number of sites with high altitudes ranging from 1,280 to 1,800 metres, where temperatures drop at rates of up to 6 degrees. The tour extended to include areas adjacent to a number of existing wind projects, and a field visit was made to the paths of the electricity transmission network proposed to connect to the national electricity grid, as well as how to maximize the benefit from wind speeds in the region
This comes within the framework of the plan to expand renewable energy projects, shorten the years of implementation, and accelerate the implementation of current projects to reach the percentage of renewable energy to 45% of the energy mix in 2028, within the framework of the work strategy, which aims to add new generating capacities from renewable energy to reduce fuel consumption, reduce carbon emissions, and the energy mix and diversify generation sources, noting that the national energy strategy aimed to reach the percentage of renewable energy in the energy mix to more than 42% in the year. 2030, and to more than 65% in 2040.

Improving the management of natural resources and maximizing their benefits
The field visit and inspection tour of the Jebel Galala region comes based on the state’s vision to improve the management of natural resources and maximize their returns, especially in the fields of solar and wind energy, and in confirmation of the great interest in electric energy as a basis for the sustainable development plan in various fields, especially in light of the instability of the current regional situation and developments.
It is worth noting that Egypt enjoys great wealth in its natural resources, which mainly include wind and solar energy, and what has been done in terms of legislative amendments and rebuilding of infrastructure to facilitate investment and support and encourage the private sector, in a way that supports achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) concerned with achieving economic growth, and supporting innovation and infrastructure.
In conclusion, the field tour to the Jebel Galala region highlights the extent of the Egyptian state’s commitment to transforming the strategic ambitions for renewable energy into a tangible practical reality, through efficient exploitation of natural resources, developing infrastructure, and accelerating the implementation of wind and clean energy projects.
For its part,The Earth Guards Foundation confirms that these initiatives are an effective tool for promoting sustainable economic development, supporting innovation, and infrastructure development, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as clean and sustainable energy, climate action, infrastructure, industry, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
