In this context, international partnerships and the exchange of technical and institutional expertise represent a pivotal element in developing intellectual property systems and enhancing their efficiency, especially in light of the increasing expansion in applications of artificial intelligence and modern technologies.

Cooperation between national institutions and their international counterparts also contributes to supporting innovation, qualifying human cadres, and improving mechanisms for marketing and investing in intellectual assets, thus enhancing the ability of countries to build more efficient and flexible institutions, and supporting sustainable development paths based on knowledge and technology.

High-level bilateral meeting

In this context, the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, headed by Dr. Hisham Azmy, witnessed the holding of a high-level bilateral meeting with the delegation of the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration, headed by Mr. Hu Wenhui, Deputy Commissioner, within the framework of enhancing joint cooperation between Egypt and China in the field of intellectual property and exchanging technical and institutional expertise.

The meeting dealt with a number of main topics, including a review of the latest institutional developments within the intellectual property authorities in the two countries, mechanisms for marketing and investing in intellectual property rights, examining patents related to artificial intelligence technologies, and programs for training and qualifying patent examiners, in addition to discussing ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two sides during the next stage.

Benefiting from pioneering international experiences

Dr. Hisham Azmy stressed the importance of joint cooperation with the Chinese side, especially in light of the great development witnessed by the intellectual property system globally, noting the agency’s keenness to maximize the benefit from leading international experiences in capacity building, technology transfer, and achieving the maximum economic benefit from intellectual assets.

The meeting witnessed extensive discussions regarding updating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides, in line with current institutional developments, as the two parties agreed to finalize the updated version of the memorandum in preparation for its signing as soon as possible, in a way that enhances the prospects for joint cooperation in various fields of intellectual property.

Intellectual Property Marketing and Patent Examination

The two sides also reviewed aspects of cooperation in the field of training technical personnel and patent examiners, as the Chinese delegation expressed its readiness to organize specialized training programs for the benefit of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority’s cadres, whether by hosting Egyptian officials and examiners in China, or by sending Chinese experts to Egypt to implement advanced training programs, which is a supportive approach to the sixteenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is linked to building effective and strong institutions and enhancing the efficiency of regulatory and knowledge frameworks. The meeting also dealt with exchanging experiences in the field of marketing intellectual property and benefiting from technology and innovation, in addition to reviewing the pilot cooperation program for accelerated patent examination (PPH) between the two sides, and discussing best international practices in examining patent applications, especially related to applications of artificial intelligence and modern technologies.
