Earth Guards Shield for Sustaining the Health Sector and Strengthening Hospitals in Egypt

There is no doubt that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are closely linked to the sustainability of the health sector, as human life and dignity must be preserved. This is why national efforts in Egypt are accelerating to integrate sustainability standards into the health sector, ensuring the provision of safe and fair medical services. In this context,The Earth Guards Foundation announced its readiness to launch the “Earth Guards Shield for the Sustainability of the Health Sector” competition.

This came in a meeting between Dr. Muhammad Zeyada, “Chairman of the Board of Trustees ofHomat Al-Earth Foundation” and Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, “Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Care”; In order to discuss ways of joint cooperation, including:Cooperating to launch the “Earth Guards Shield for Health Sector Sustainability” competition, which is scheduled to be launched during the Authority’s annual meeting next November.

The meeting witnessed the participation of: Dr. Reham Farouk, “Secretary Generalof The Earth Guards Foundation”, Dr. Jamal Rtba, “Advisor to the President of the General Authority for Health Care, and Head of the Central Administration for Institutional Support Services”, Dr. Reham El-Shenawy, “Director General of the General Administration for International Cooperation”, and Dr. Maha Saeed, “Director of the Pharmacovigilance Unit at the Authority”.

Public health is the foundation

There, Dr. Muhammad Zeyada, “Chairman of the Board of Trustees ofThe Earth Guards Foundation,” explained that the “Earth Guards Shield for Health Sector Sustainability” competition aims to promote healthThe public by transforming the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into clear indicators and measurable standards, directly related to the Egyptian health sector. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Earth Guards Foundationalso explained that the evaluation criteria are based on seventeen main indicators; These are indicators derived from the United Nations goals for sustainable development across its three dimensions: social, economic, and environmental.

وفي سياق متصل أضاف الدكتور/ محمد زيادة، قائلًا: «نطمح إلى تعزيز العدالة والشمولية في الرعاية الصحية، مع تطوير برامج تدريبية لتمكين الكوادر»، مشيرًا إلى أنَّ مسابقة “درع Earth Guards لاستدامة القطاع الصحي” تركز في بُعدها البيئي على إدارة المخلفات الطبية والخطرة، وتشغيل الأنظمة الخضراء، والاعتماد على الطاقة المتجددة، وتفعيل النقل المستدام، وإدارة Wasteand water sustainable management.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Earth Guards Foundation indicated that the competition is based on eight main objectives, the most prominent of which are:

  • Encouraging the integration of sustainability into daily activities.
  • Enhancing the role of health care in achieving development.
  • Develop a safe and stimulating work environment.
  • Stimulating innovation in resource management.
  • Establishing a culture of self-evaluation.
  • Compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Supporting investment in sustainable institutions.
  • Providing a competitive environment that enhances institutional excellence.

Then Dr. Muhammad Ziadeh concluded, “Chairman of the Board of Trustees ofHama Foundation“The Earth” said: “TheShield of the Earth’s Protectors for the Sustainability of the Health Sectoris an important step towards a better and more future. Sustainability, and an embodiment of our deep conviction in the importance of public health and the quality of life of Egyptians”.

The health sector with national efforts

Regarding this strategic cooperation, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Care, stated that the competition targets all hospitals whose capacity exceeds 40 beds in various sectors. Motivated to integrate sustainability standards into their daily practices. He pointed out that the judging committee will include local and international experts to ensure transparency, and that the competition will be held under the auspices of the Ministries of Health, Local Development and Solidarity.Social and education, stressing that the Authority’s experience and its obtaining the Gold Award from the International Hospital Federation for the year 2024 reflects the leadership of the Egyptian health experience.

In conclusion, the “Earth Guards Shield for Health Sector Sustainability” is a competition that seeks to consolidate the values of sustainability in the health sector, based on it being a sector capable of becoming a pioneering model in managing resources, energy, and waste in a sustainable and integrated manner, and this opens the way for other sectors to follow suit. Hence, the competition represents a meeting point between the state’s ambitions and society’s entitlements, where policies are translated into practices, goals into indicators, and slogans into tangible achievements within a national framework.
