Opening of the third annual conference of the Regional Network for the Empowerment of Women in the Energy Sector
The Egyptian state is keen to implement the principle of gender equality andreducing inequalities through initiatives to empower women in various sectors based on the social axis of comprehensive sustainable development, and out of its belief in their effective participation in Egyptian society.
In this context, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, opened the “Third Annual Conference of the Regional Network in the Field of Energy for Women in the Middle East and North Africa – RENEW MENA”.
The conference was held under the auspices of the World Bank and in the presence of its representatives, namely: Mr. Stephane Gimpert, Regional Director of the BankThe International Bank for Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, and Ms. Anna Birdie, World Bank Vice President for Operations, who participated via video, and representatives of the governments of many countries.
World Bank Efforts
Based on the World Bank’s efforts to finance various projects – in addition to providing technical expertise and capacity building – Dr. Rania Al-Mashat praised these efforts, stressing that the state is striving to implement them on the ground, and stressed the importance of having skilled cadres to achieve sustainable development.

Empowering women in the energy sector
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat added that there is an active effort by both developed and developing countries to create new job opportunities, especially in the energy sector, noting that the energy sector is one of the important sectors that the World Bank focuses on, stressing the importance of producing energy at the highest levels.Efficient and less expensive, this is achieved through renewable energy such as solar and wind energy.
National narrative of economic development
In this context, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat highlightedthe national narrative of economic development, which combats various economic challenges, noting that the government is working to overcome the difficulties facing women’s participation by launching the new labor law, which includes specific elements aimed at enhancing their participation, whether by regulating the work environment or by guaranteeing their professional rights.

Ongoing and ongoing repairs
The Minister also stressed that implementing these policies requires ongoing and continuous reforms in many sectors, and by looking at tools such as green bonds, we will find that they provide a meansImportant to support economic activities that enhance women’s participation.
The Minister also touched on the importance of the mining sector in Egypt, as it is witnessing large and sustainable expansions, which reflects the truth that we witness daily: women are capable, qualified, and effective in all sectors.
In line with Dr. Rania Al-Mashat’s emphasis on the importance and role of women in the energy sector, it is worth noting that the regional network in the field of energy for women in the Middle East and North Africa includes women leaders, policy makers, researchers, and entrepreneurs, who work in initiatives that provide an important regional platform to enable women to cooperate and participate in advancing the process of sustainable development.
The Regional Network for Energy for Women in the Middle East and North Africa also works, with support from the World Bank, as a regional platform that works to enhance the participation ofWomen, their leadership and entrepreneurship, with more than 60 active partners from public institutions, private companies and academia, enhancing cooperation, knowledge exchange and innovation to accelerate gender equality in the field of energy.
In conclusion, the opening ofthe third annual conference of the Regional Network for the Empowerment of Women in the Energy Sector reveals a new phase of the interaction of economic policies with the path of social justice in Egypt and the region, where the priorities of growth and economic diversification intersect with the necessity of involving women as a pivotal element in building a flexible economy capable of adapting to global transformations.
