Opening of the activities of the fifth edition of the African Medical Conference in Support of Health Development
Health development is one of the main foundations for achievingsustainable development, because it represents a close connection to the quality of life of citizens and the ability of countries to enhance productivity and achieve economic and social growth. With the acceleration of health challenges globally, developing health systems, localizing the medical and pharmaceutical industries, and expanding the scope of benefiting from modern technology have become among the priorities that are receiving increasing attention at the regional and international levels.
In light of this trend, the importance of specialized medical exhibitions and conferences that bring together decision-makers, experts and international partners to exchange experiences and explore prospects for joint cooperation is increasing in importance, which contributes to building more efficient and sustainable health systems capable of facing future challenges, and supporting health development efforts as a basic pillar of comprehensive development.
Wide participation and high-level international presence
In this spirit, and on behalf of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly opened the activities of the African Medical Exhibition and Conference “2026Africa Health ExCon” in its fifth edition, which is organized by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchasing, Medical Supply and Supply and the Medical Technology Department, under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic.
A number of current and former ministers, members of parliament, heads of international and regional bodies and organizations, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions, in addition to a large number of health sector leaders, and partners from international institutions and the private sector are also participating in the African conference and exhibition.

Uniting efforts to support the health development agenda
This year’s edition witnesses unprecedented participation from various Egyptian health authorities and bodies as major partners in the event, reflecting the integration of the healthcare system in Egypt and unifying efforts to support the health development agenda at the national and African levels.
The most prominent participants in the conference and exhibition are the Ministry of Health and Population, the Egyptian Unified Purchasing Authority, the Egyptian Medicine Authority, the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, the General Authority for Health Care, and the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, in addition to universities, educational hospitals, relevant regulatory and supervisory bodies, and major pharmaceutical companies, making the conference a comprehensive platform for the various parties of the health care system and health decision-making in Egypt. And Africa.
Health sovereignty in Africa
This year’s edition of the conference comes under the slogan “Health Sovereignty in Africa: Leadership, Resilience, and Self-Reliance,” in cooperation with the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), to confirm Egypt’s position as the leading regional hub in supporting and developing the continent’s health care system, and enhancing health integration efforts among African countries, in line with the goals of the Africa 2063 Agenda and Egypt’s 2030 Vision for Sustainable Development.
This year’s edition will attract more than 400 local, regional and international companies, with an expected attendance of more than 45,000 experts and decision-makers from around the world, to participate in more than 21 expanded dialogue and specialized sessions and intensive technical workshops aimed at translating health challenges into tangible investment and development opportunities.
Health sovereignty and localization of medical industries
The conference activities also witnessed an emphasis on the importance of strengthening international and African partnerships in the health care sector, and supporting the exchange of experiences and technology transfer, which contributes to developing health systems and enhancing their capabilities to face future challenges and crises. The importance of localizing the medical and pharmaceutical industries and expanding investment and innovation horizons has also emerged, in a way that supports efforts to achieve health security and sustainability on the African continent.
In this context, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that the conference and exhibition “Africa Health ExCon 2026” embodies Egypt’s vision to strengthen African health sovereignty and consolidate the continent’s position in innovation, manufacturing and health trade, noting that the event represents a strategic platform for strengthening partnerships, transferring technology and exchanging experiences, which contributes to making health technologies available fairly and building more resilient health systems. And sustainability.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed that Egypt, under the leadership of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, will continue to support all initiatives aimed at strengthening African health integration, transferring expertise, building capabilities and localizing medical industries, out of its belief that investing in health is an investment in people, development and stability, and that building strong and flexible health systems represents the cornerstone of a healthier and more prosperous future for the African continent and the world.
He added that the future of health care in Africa is based on moving from the concept of treating disease to the concept of building health, by relying on prevention, early detection, innovation and digital transformation, stressing that the continent possesses the human resources, scientific competencies and investment opportunities that qualify it to become a global center for innovation, manufacturing and health trade.
The conference reflects an increasing trend towards supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), foremost of which is the third goal concerned with ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, along with the ninth goal related to industry, innovation and infrastructure, and the eighth goal related to economic growth and providing job opportunities, as well as the seventeenth goal that focuses on building partnerships to achieve sustainable development, by enhancing international cooperation, localizing the medical and pharmaceutical industries, technology transfer, and developing health systems.
In conclusion, the fifth edition of theAfrica Health ExCon 2026 conference and exhibitionreveals a broader shift in perception of the health sector as one of the determinants of comprehensive development and one of the elements of the strategic power of countries.
