The Food Safety Authority intensifies its oversight efforts to control violations and support public health
In light of the intense preparations for seasons of high food consumption, most notably the Eid al-Adha season, the National Food Safety Authority continues to strengthen its oversight efforts on food handling and manufacturing, in a way that supports the protection of citizens’ health and the stability of local markets.
These moves come within the framework of the state’s direction towards strengthening the food security systemand achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by raising the efficiency of supply, storage and export chains, expanding the scope of field supervision, and supporting the quality of Egyptian food products in a way that enhances their competitiveness locally and internationally.
The indicators issued by the Authority reflect the growing efficiency of the food control system and the expansion of the scope of field follow-up at the various stages of production and trading, in parallel with the continued growth of the movement of Egyptian food exports to foreign markets.
Factory visits for inspection and quality control
In this context, the Authority intensified its oversight campaigns on various food establishments in the governorates of the Republic, as the General Administration for Factory Control carried out 98 inspection visits aimed at monitoring the extent of the establishments’ compliance with quality and food safety requirements. A number of establishments were registered, and other establishments were able to fulfill the Authority’s requirements as part of efforts to reconcile the situation.
The Department of Control of Stations and Packing Centers also carried out 60 inspection visits in a number of governorates, including Giza, Alexandria, Ismailia and Fayoum, within the framework of strengthening control over food trading chains, in parallel with the issuance of 2,729 export permits for agricultural crops for the benefit of 1,448 exporting companies, which reflects the discipline and accuracy of the export system.
Supporting access to safe and healthy food for Egyptians
The Authority’s General Administration for Control of Storage Facilities and Strategic Commodities carried out 56 seizure missions, including visits to 78 food facilities, in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Gharbia and Sharqia to monitor the extent of compliance with international requirements and standards, ensuring the achievement of good health through the delivery of safe and healthy food to the Egyptian consumer.
As part of the efforts of the National Food Safety Authority to follow up on strategic commodities and ensure their safety and quality, the administration carried out a number of inspection visits to rice mills and bakeries, to ensure the extent of compliance with the approved requirements and standards and to ensure the arrival of safe and suitable products for consumption.

Follow up on the work of receiving local wheat
With the start of the local wheat supply season for the year 2026, the National Food Safety Authority, through the operations room of the Strategic Commodities Administration, is participating in implementing field traffic campaigns at the level of the governorates of the Republic to follow up on the regularity of the work of the local wheat receiving committees and overcome any obstacles they may face.
These intensive oversight efforts reflect a direct impact on the quality of the food system within the Egyptian market, by raising rates of compliance with technical and health requirements and improving the level of food circulation, which enhances the efficiency of the system as a whole, and contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting safer and more sustainable production and consumption patterns, reducing food waste, and enhancing the efficiency of supply chains, which reflects positively on good health and well-being.

Enhancing Egyptian food exports
The intensive monitoring campaigns implemented by the National Food Safety Authority contribute to raising the efficiency of the food production and circulation system within the local market, ensuring that establishments adhere to the approved technical and health requirements. This regulatory discipline contributes directly to enhancing the quality of Egyptian products and raising their competitiveness in foreign markets, which is reflected in the increasing demand for Egyptian food exports and the expansion of their spread in a large number of international markets, which supports the position of the Egyptian product globally.
Hence, Egypt recorded a strong performance during the past week, as the number of exported food consignments reached about 5,605 consignments with a total of 265 thousand tons, issued by 1,622 exporting companies, and included about 740 types of various food products.
It is worth noting that these efforts support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to enhancing economic growth and increasing competitiveness, by supporting the quality of Egyptian food exports and expanding their spread in global markets.
Broadening of the market base receiving the Egyptian product
Fruits topped the list of exports with 35 varieties and a total of 99 thousand tons. Citrus fruits came in the lead with a total of 66 thousand tons, followed by strawberries with about 17 thousand tons, then grapes with a total of 8 thousand tons.
The number of exported types of vegetables reached 42, with a total of 54 thousand tons, led by potatoes with a total of 13 thousand tons, then sweet potatoes with 12 thousand tons, and mixed vegetables with 5 thousand tons.
Saudi Arabia topped the list of countries importing Egyptian food exports, followed by the Netherlands, Sudan, Syria and the Emirates, out of a total of 193 importing countries, which reflects the broad base of markets receiving Egyptian food products.
In summary, the integrated indicators of the performance of the National Food Safety Authority reveal the transition of the food control system in Egypt to a more comprehensive model based on risk management, integration of supply chains, and linking internal and external markets within a single framework. Expanding field supervision, raising the efficiency of facilities, and developing inspection mechanisms have become part of a broader economic structure that reshapes the quality of the product from the moment of production until it reaches the consumer or international markets.
These efforts indicate that food safety has become a ruling element in the development equation, linking public health, economic efficiency, and resource sustainability, establishing a model in which regulatory governance intersects with long-term development impact.
In this context,The Earth Guards Foundation appreciates the system for achieving food safety and supporting food security as a practical commitment to supporting the goals of sustainable development, most notably the third goal related to good health and well-being, in addition to the second goal related to eliminating hunger, as well as the twelfth goal related to responsible consumption and production, by raising the efficiency of… Control, reduce waste, and ensure the safety of food traded locally and exported externally.
