Egypt launches the trial operation of the Tahya Misr container terminal in Damietta Port
The Tahya Misr 1 container terminal in Damietta Port confirms to us Egypt’s relentless pursuit of achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing decent job opportunities, and preserving environmental resources, all in line with the axes of the national agenda “Egypt Vision 2030” and the global plan for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through the development of Damietta Port and the operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal, Egypt also seeks to strengthen its position in terms of being a regional center for transport, logistics and transit trade, in a way that supports international trade and increases the ability of the Egyptian maritime sector to compete regionally and expand internationally in the fields of import, export, shipping and unloading.
The trial commercial operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal represents a practical, sustainable step on the ground towards achieving Egypt’s strategic goals in the maritime transport sector, which is something thatThe The Earth Guards Foundation highlights in the following lines: So keep reading.
Tahya Misr Container Terminal
Within the framework of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to transform Egypt into a regional and international center for transport, logistics and transit trade, Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir “Minister of Transport” witnessed the launch of the trial commercial operation phase of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal in Damietta Port, in the presence of Dr. Ayman Al-Shehabi “Governor of Damietta”, members of the Transport and Communications Committee in the House of Representatives, and leaders of the Damietta Port Authority, in addition to the presence of a number One of the commercial attachés of a number of European countries to Egypt, and representatives of major international shipping lines.

The trial commercial operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal represents a crucial stage in the development process of Damietta Port, and its transformation into a pivotal port along the Mediterranean Sea. In order to be able to receive giant ships and strengthen global supply chains.
To highlight the logistical role that will be provided by the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal in Damietta Port, we must realize that the annual capacity of the terminal is about 3.5 million equivalent containers, while its berths extend over a length of 1,970 meters, and at depths of up to 18 metres, with a back yard of approximately 922 thousand square metres. These are absorptive and technical capabilities that enhance the port’s operational efficiency and support its ability to provide world-class services in loading and unloading.
Modern equipment to enhance efficiency and sustainability
To achieve this global level, the project combines modernizing the infrastructure, using the latest smart cranes and cranes, with the application of advanced port management systems that provide accuracy and high efficiency in loading and unloading operations, in addition to adopting environmentally friendly methods that contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
The Tahya Misr 1 station includes twelve giant dock cranes (STS), capable of handling ships of large tonnage, with a lifting capacity of up to 75 tons, an operating height of 57.5 meters, and an external boom length of up to 72 meters.
A pivotal step towards a regional transportation center
In this regard, the Minister confirmed that the trial commercial operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal represents a turning point in the development of Damietta Port, and work to attract major international companies to invest in Egyptian ports, as well as strengthening the integrated development logistics corridor (Tanta – Mansoura – Damietta).
It is worth noting here that the launch of the trial commercial operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal was accompanied by the reception ofthe giant container shipof the international shipping line “Hapag-Lloyd”, coming from the Turkish port of Amberley. It is a ship that is more than 366 meters long, 48 meters wide, and a draft of 15 meters, and its total tonnage reaches 143,262 tons.

In general, the trial commercial operation of the Tahya Misr 1 container terminal establishes an integrated system based on high efficiency and artificial intelligence in container management, while following environmental sustainability standards. This will help increase economic growth rates, as well as provide decent and sustainable job opportunities.
This economic step also embodies a comprehensive vision that links institutional development, technological modernization, international partnerships, and the strategic goals of sustainable development. Therefore,The Earth Guards Foundation confirms from its pioneering position in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and spreading awareness of its issues that Egypt is working hard to become a pivotal center for transportation and logistics, capable of global competition, and helping to achieve a sustainable social and economic impact.
