Opening of the activities of the first international conference in support of food security and sustainable development

Food security represents one of the most prominent challenges facing the world, especially with the repercussions of climate change, rising production costs, and increasing pressures on resources, which prompts countries to develop their production systems and enhance reliance on scientific research and innovation to build food systems more capable of facing crises and achieving sustainability.

From this standpoint, developing the livestock, poultry and fish production sectors has become an essential element in supporting food security, through improving productivity, developing breeds, enhancing veterinary services, and employing modern technologies.

Specialized scientific conferences are important platforms for exchanging experiences and researchApplied solutions that contribute to the development of these sectors, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

International participation to discuss the future of animal production

In this context, Mr. Alaa Farouk opened the activities of the First International Conference for the Sustainable Development of Livestock, Poultry and Fish Resources, which was organized by the Agricultural Research Center, with the participation of an elite group of experts and researchers from Egypt and a number of countries around the world, to discuss the latest scientific and applied trends in this vital sector, in cooperation with the General Syndicate of Veterinarians.

In his speech, the Minister of Agriculture extended his sincere thanks to the Agricultural Research Center and its various institutes, the Veterinarians Syndicate, and all the supporting bodies and committees organizing the conference, appreciating their efforts in preparation and organization. He also welcomed Egypt’s guests from various countries of the world, wishing them a stayGood and successful and fruitful conference.

National projects to support livestock

He stressed that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, pays great attention to the development of the livestock sector, as it is one of the basic pillars of achieving food security, through implementing national projects to expand animal, poultry and fish production, improving breeds, developing veterinary services, supporting small breeders, and encouraging investment, in addition to expanding the use of modern technology.

Pointing out that the holding of this conference comes at a very important time, in light of the increasing challenges the world faces related to food security, climate change, the spread of cross-border diseases, and rising production costs, in addition to global economic challenges,This requires strengthening scientific and research cooperation, and developing policies to achieve sustainability and increase productivity.

Technology and scientific research support the sustainability of agricultural production

The Minister pointed out the expansion of investment support in the livestock and poultry production sectors, facilitating licensing procedures, in addition to developing fish farming, and enhancing cooperation with international partners to transfer technology and exchange experiences, stressing that these efforts come in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve food security and sustainable agricultural development, and build more efficient production systems and the ability to adapt to climate change.

He also explained that the Ministry pays special attention to applications of genetic improvement, biotechnology and digital transformation, and benefiting from artificial intelligence in farm management and improving production efficiency.And rationalizing the use of resources, in addition to strengthening the link between scientific research and practical application, and accelerating the transfer of research results to farmers, in order to achieve real added value for the sector, and support efforts to achieve the second goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on eliminating hunger and promoting food security and sustainable agriculture, in addition to the ninth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting innovation, developing the technological infrastructure, and improving the use of resources.

Sustainable plans to develop the livestock sector

He stressed that the Ministry is working to implement a package of measures to confront these challenges, including expanding the production of fodder crops, supporting non-traditional alternatives to fodder, encouraging local manufacturing, providing concessional financing, developing marketing systems, and enhancing extension and digital services.
